Silencing dissent is a danger to democracy !
Writing this piece after learning the news of cold blood murder of Ms.Gauri Shanker near her residence in Rajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore. If the news is to be believed, the killers shot at her and pumped three bullets by which she died on the spot. Ms.Gauri Shankar was a fearless journalist and editor of a magazine called Gauri Lankesh Patrike. She was known for her critics on right wing politics and Hindutva.
The modus operendi of this murder is similar to that of Mr.Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar and MM Kalburgi. It is to be well implicit that ever since the BJP came into power, we have seen such murders at different places time and again. It is like if you like us be with us…and if you don’t like or support us, you will be killed...! we are perceiving an epidemic kind of situation for all the right thinkers who speaks, writes and work against the fascist forces. These forces though not work openly against the humanatarins, but they like to kill them in the most coward way one can think of. The killings of above mentioned people is the live example of such killings.
It’s not new though...! it all started from Buddha in ancient India. The Anti forces tried to malign his character by all possible means and also tried kill him numerous times. In Modern times we have seen the assassination of Mahatma in broad day light by Nathuram Ghodse. The trend is still alive where people are killed for their dissent! One might think that what would make these goons kill people in such a brutal way? is it because they write against them? is it because they speak the truth and enlight the masses...? or is it because they want to see the end of fascist ideology? The answer may wary from place to place and person to person, but one thing we all know that these fascist forces are the most coward entities on this earth who cannot bear the dissent, who cannot see anything working against them. They have the fear that if the masses are englighted against their nonsense ideology, their mean and cruel politics and conspiracies against the whole humanity, their existence will be under threat. And that is the reason why, they keep on killing the activists who write/work against them be it Pansare, Dabholkar or Gauri Shanker...!
Here we have to understand one thing, the activists who are killed by these cowards are not famous personalities, they can neither do any harm to the powerful fascist forces nor can destabilize their thrown. In this situation, a common man should have one question in mind why these people are killed. For me the best answer is, these people are against them...! enlighting masses by continuously writing against these fascist forces. But these forces should remember that silencing the dissent in this way will not stop people for working against them. If they kill one, hundreds will rise! I strongly feel that the people of this country should realize at the earliest that killing or silencing the dissent in this way is a danger to democracy! As as long as we keep quite, these forces will grow stronger by every passing day.
Time has come when people should come and join hands to fight against these fascist forces otherwise, it is not difficult for me to say that tomorrow they will come to our doorstep and silence us as well! Anyways, they have started it in various forms such as Mob Lynching, Social Boycotss and killing in the name of religious fundamentalism. the depressed classes and minorities have started fearing about their lives throughout India. And if we really think that these killings should stop somewhere, we must rise, we must stand together. The blood of these thinkers/activists should not go in vain, they disfigured these mean and cruel people/ideology, they sacrificed their lives for the masses without caring for their lives and families. Today we all must pledge to continue the war against the enemies of humanity, let us join hands to strengthen the movement stronger. Let us raise voice against the injustice, let us fight for existence and work to keep alive Liberty, Equality, Fraternity and Justice...!
They can kill the person, but they cannot kill the voice!
